While on a business trip in Kobe, Tsuneo Asai receives the distressing news of his wife Eiko's death due to a heart attack. Eiko had been dealing with a heart condition, so her passing wasn't entirely unforeseen. However, the circumstances surrounding her death left Tsuneo, a gentle and reserved government official, deeply puzzled. Eiko, known for her reserved nature, usually left their home only twice a week for her haiku meetings. It was bewildering for Tsuneo to learn that she died in a small store located in a seedy district of Tokyo. Seeking answers, Tsuneo visits the boutique to express his apologies for the inconvenience caused by his wife's sudden death. There, he notices the nearby Tachibana villa, a notorious hub for clandestine meetings of lovers.
