Khaled and Mustafa, both eighteen-year-olds from Libya, first meet while studying at university in Edinburgh, with plans to eventually return to their homeland. Emboldened by a mix of recklessness and bravery, they decide to head to London to participate in a protest outside the Libyan embassy. The demonstration takes a tragic turn when government officials open fire on the crowd, leaving both Khaled and Mustafa injured and their futures altered irrevocably. In the years that follow, their bond with another friend, Hosam, a writer, grows stronger through their shared experiences. However, the onset of revolution in Libya presents them with a difficult choice between the lives they've built in London and the ones they left behind in their native country, transforming their friendship into a constricted and challenging connection.
